Brochette Quilt

I finally finished my first quilt! I used Joel Dewberry’s Notting Hill line and a few additional patterns. The final size measures about 80″x60″–large enough to snuggle under the couch and still can cover the top of a double bed. Being my first quilt, I had to learn somewhere. I got a lot of help from a great tutorial from Natalie at Threaded Mess. Hopefully the first quilt of many!

That’s me in the green striped shirt in the background holding the quilt from the top of the banister. I got creative in the quilt backing–sometimes quilt backs can be quite boring, and I refuse to invest so much time and energy and muscle cramps into a quilt that doesn’t look awesome and interesting on both sides. The woven teal rectangles are from a linen dress I loved but was sadly destroyed by a too hot iron. Luckily the dress is able to live on in this quilt. I wanted the back to complement the front, so I bordered the colors in 1.5″ black fabric. I wish I knew which brand the pink geometric fabric came from–I found it in a shop in Boston for a steal but have never seen it again. The main fabric with flowers is Charisma in Midnight by Amy Butler. I always have such a hard time choosing fabrics. Too many gorgeous patterns to pick from. Happy crafting!

  1. Congratulations on your first quilt!!! You did a great job! I love the Notting Hill line, too. Then again, I pretty much like all of Joel Dewberry’s fabrics! ๐Ÿ™‚ -Jamie
